Melaka or formerly Malacca was founded by the Sumatran Prince Parameswara as a spice port. It later grew to Malacca Empire. In 1511 it was captured by the Portuguese, then later by the Dutch and followed by the English. It was part of the Straits Settlements with Penang and Singapore before in 1957 becoming part of Malaya and later Malaysia. Melaka is now a listed UNESCO World Heritage historical city of the Straits of Malacca. State emblem stamp used. Postcard mailed from Melaka.
