Mali - The Bafing Makana Park Biodiversity Reserve

With an area of approximately 176,469 ha, the Bafing Makana Park Biodiversity Reserve was created in 1990. It is located in the Kayes region, straddling the circles of Kéniéba, Bafoulabé and Kita. In 2002, to better define the park's protected area, biotope reserves were created within it. These are the Kouroufing and Wongo Reserves and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary. The Park is also characterized by a succession of armored plateaus, alluvial plains and lowlands. The climate is Sudanese in the north and Sudano-Guinean in the south. All the rivers in the Park belong to the hydro system of the Senegal River watershed, including its main tributary, the Bafing, and a network of small streams.
