China - Shanxi - Traditional Houses

"Qiao's Courtyard Houses, Qi County; Qu's Courtyard Houses, Qi County; Wang's Courtyard Houses, Lingshi County; Cao's Courtyard Houses, Taigu County. Shanxi Businessmen's Courtyard Houses are located in Jinzhong city, Shanxi province, about 500 km south of Beijing, and regarded as outstanding examples of civilian residence building, when Chi-nese merchant capital grew rapidly in Ching dynasty. Qiao family masion was first built in Qianlong period, Qhing dynasty, and located in Qiao Jiabao Village of Qi County, covering an area of 10642 square meters with 4175 square meters of building area. It consists of 6 big courtyards with 20 sub-courtyards. The total 313 rooms form a closed castle-like complex which looks like the traditional Chinese pattern of "double-happiness" from a bird's eye view. Qu Family Mansion is in Qi County seat, was first built since Qianlong period of Ching dynasty, and covers an area of 7356 square meters with 4398 square meters building area.
