Malaysia 52nd Merdeka Celebration, August 31, 2009

Malaysia gained indepence from the British on August 31, 1957 as Malaya. In 1963, Sabah and Sarawk joined Malaya to formed Malaysia. This year, Malaysia is celebrating the 52nd Anniversary of Independence - "52nd Merdeka".

Malaysia is a constitutional monarch of Federation of 13 States of Perlis, Kedah, Penang (Pulau Pinang), Perak, Selangor, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Johor, Pahang, Terengganu, Kelantan of Peninsular Malaysia and Sabah and Sarawak of Borneo Island and the 3 Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and Labuan.

This multi-view map postcard was mailed from Federal Territory of Labuan - an island off Borneo using Federal Territory -Wilayah Persekutuan emblem stamp.

    I didn't know that Malaysia has only been independent as Malaysia for 52 years. Wow. I like this card. What's going on in the first top corner picture?

    I like this card. It depicts the whole picture of Malaysia. I am really poor in history. I never know that Malaysia was colonized by British people.
